Public and Government Affairs

Amid the worst economic news we can recall in our lifetimes, including story after story of layoffs, General Motors called to say they planned to open a new auto dealership in Harlem. Hundreds of jobs would be created directly, and the effect on the neighborhood would be profound. New York City has never had an auto dealership above 59th Street, let alone above 125th Street.

Like anyone who has ever embarked on a major project like this in Gotham, GM knew that on the way to Harlem they’d have to steer around a good many bureaucratic potholes and political landmines. Having had experience on the inside of New York City government, and strong relationships with elected officials, Soury Communications was able to reach out to the right people, at the right time, to overcome all obstacles. Soury’s work culminated in an announcement/media event at the future site, featuring Mayor Bloomberg, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner.
